York's Connor Rinoski won a playoff to become the first medalist of the Group 3A East Region golf tournament, while New Kent's team qualified for next week's state tournament.

Rinoski and Brentsville's Lance Keiser both shot 73s for the regulation 18 holes at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Shenandoah.

New Kent finished as runner-up to William Monroe, shooting 325 to the Dragons' 313.

Both William Monroe and New Kent qualified for the state tournament, which will be held at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg on Monday and Tuesday.

Rinoski and Lafayette's Evan Johnson, who won a playoff for the sixth and final individual place, will represent the Bay  Rivers District at state.
