HAMPTON — C.E. Falk moved out front on the white-flag circuit and gained an unlikely victory in the first of the Smithfield Foods Twin 75s for the late model stock cars, the featured events of Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program at Langley Speedway.
Nick Smith started on the pole, at 91.090 mph, and led 69 of the 75 laps. Nearing the finish, he was up by four lengths over Falk and seemed to be on the way to an easy win.
Exiting Turn 2 on lap 75, Smith dropped completely off the pace and Falk flashed past, driving on to his third victory of the season.
Casey Wyatt, Mark Wertz, Dean Shiflett and Wes Falk completed the top five, while Smith ended up 12th.
The race was slowed by eight caution flags.
• Connor Hall started on the pole and led all the way for his second straight win in the 25-lap legends feature. Brad Hancock was second, half a straightaway behind, while Spencer Saunders, Steve Keesee and Chris Hildebrand rounded out the top five.
• Robbie Davis led from pole to checkers to remain unbeaten in a 25-lapper for the super trucks. The win was his fourth of the season. Chase McAdams was the runner-up, nearly half a straightaway behind, followed by Bill Wallace. Early retirees Matt Kurz and Fred McAdams were credited with fourth and fifth, respectively.
• Starting from the pole, Ryleigh Lemonds overwhelmed the field for her first win in a caution-free 15-lapper for the bandoleros. Maddy Mulligan was second, more than a straightaway back. Trevor Wells, Andrew Fortin and Dashe McLaughlin completed the top five.
• Races for the modifieds, UCARS and the second late model race haven't been completed.
