Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase practiced Wednesday on his injured left ankle, coach Tim Beckman told reporters after practice in Champaign.
Scheelhaase injured his ankle against Western Michigan and was limited in practice Sunday and Tuesday while the Illini prepared for Saturday's game at Arizona State.
"He's much better than he was yesterday," Beckman said in the interview released by the Illinois sports information department. "He said he felt pretty good."
Beckman said he would make the decision after practice Thursday. Backups Reilly O'Toole and Miles Osei are competing for the starting spot should Scheelhaase not be able to play.
