West Point girls basketball team prepares for a pink season

WEST POINT — One of the fun things about making a varsity basketball team is that you get to pick out your team shoe. Most teams pick one that matches their uniform colors but the West Point Lady Pointers picked a shoe that will make a statement.

"Instead of picking a navy or orange shoe, the girls decided to play this year for all the people who are suffering from breast cancer. We usually do a 'pink game,' but they decided to do a 'pink season',"" said long time Lady Pointers coach Mark Ware.

The team's motto this season is, "We're stronger together," which will translate on and off the court.

"This is a special group of girls, if only one person is saved by us wearing pink shoes it will make our season a success," said Coach Ware.
