NEW KENT – Each year, the track's Secretariat turf course is strategically set on fire to quickly remove dead "cover" and drive nutrients into the ground so the grass comes back greener and more lush in time for the upcoming summer racing season. For the first time ever, this event is open to the public and there will be fire-themed activities! Bring your camera for this unique spectacular!
The Colonial Downs Track Burning Event will be held on Friday, April 11 from 4 – 8 p.m..
*Admission is $1; See popular magician and fire juggler Jonathan Austin perform along with fire eaters & fire breathers.
*Pig roast! plated meal is $9 for adults, $5 for kids (includes pig, dessert & iced tea)
*New Kent's Largest Garage sale – though we're calling it a "Fire Sale"- any resident can rent a spot for $10 and sell
