Single-car accident causes five-mile backup on I-64 east

NEW KENT – A single-car accident caused a five-mile backup on I-64 in New Kent County earlier this afternoon.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash on I-64 eastbound at the 214 mile marker (Route 155/Providence Forge).

The crash occurred after the driver of a 1993 Kenworth Tractor-Trailer ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the guardrail. 

The driver, who was wearing his safety belt, was not injured in the crash.

The left lane was closed to allow for the crash investigation.  The left lane was re-opened at approximately 4:00 p.m.
