To the editor:
This sludge would contain heavy metals and carcinogens, and people have serious concerns regarding their health, their land and if their wells would be affected.
Industrial waste would be applied to more than 8,000 acres in King William County, more than 4,000 acres in King and Queen County, and about 800 acres in New Kent County. Four other nearby counties would also receive the waste.
People have the right to know exactly where the applications would be spread, and the Tidewater Review would be doing an important public service if maps showing the disposal sites were published.
The company that would apply the sludge is Synagro and has a record of violations and fines, several occurring in Virginia in recent years.
The risks are too great to allow for this permit to be issued.
