NEW KENT – A fire that struck a mobile home on Allforgod Lane in New Kent County earlier this morning may have been caused by a woodstove.
According to New Kent County Fire Chief Rick Opett, at approximately 5:39 a.m., the department received a call that there was smoke inside a mobile home in the 9400 block of Allforgod Lane.
The first unit arrived on the scene and reported smoke coming from the front door and the roof eaves of a mobile home. Crews cleared the residence of its 11 occupants and then worked on controlling the fire in the wall behind the fireplace.
A small dog was rescued from a crate within the home and appeared to be behaving normally outside of the structure.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced residents.
There was no loss of life and no firefighter injuries were reported.
The New Kent County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation and found the cause of the fire to be accidental with an origin located around the wood stove insert.
