King & Queen Pamunkey Library poetry contest winners

KING & QUEEN – A Poetry Awards Celebration sponsored by the Friends of the King and Queen Branch on the Pamunkey Regional Library System was held recently in the auditorium of the old Marriott School Building to honor the winners of the King and Queen Library Poetry Contest. There were over sixty entries in the contest which included categories from kindergarten through adults.

The winners of 2014 poetry contest were:

Grades K – 2:

1st Place - Arnasia Banks

2nd Place - Aaliyah Owens and Dakota Perreault

3rd Place - Summer Benefield

4th Place - Tyshawna Brooken and Henry McQuillen

Grades 3 – 5:

1st Place - Emily McCauley

2nd Place - Devin Martin and Jessica Williams

3rd Place - Jayvon Brown, Taylor Cunningham and Crystal Stolfi

4th Place - Alyssa Borron, Matthew Smith, Caden Viars and James Williams

Grades 6 – 8:

1st Place - Asia Scott

2nd Place - Dayshelay Evans, Jeremiah Morris, Mihaughany Redd and Sasha Woods

3rd Place - Stacey Brandenburg, Lilly Peveto and Joseph Randal Williams, Jr.

4th Place - Sarah Baker and Elissa Smith

Adults:

1st Place - Rachelle Pohlman,

2nd Place - Tere Pistole

3rd Place - Gwendolyn Roy and Cassandra Williams

Poems were read by the winning poets and awards were presented. A time of fellowship and refreshments followed. More than 90 people attended this event.
