NEW KENT – Damaged hangars in New Kent County Airport are getting a new roof.
The New Kent Board of Supervisors voted on Jan. 13 to approve a contract with R.F. Howerton, Inc., in the amount of $94,578 for the installation of a new metal roof system on the storm-damaged West T-Hangars at the airport.
The hangars' roof was damaged in August 2011 during Hurricane Irene.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved public assistance to fund the supplement insurance funds, totaling around $29,000, so that the system be brought up to building code. Currently, the old roof is prone to recurring wind damage.
"We are currently losing rentals over this," Airport Manager Bill Kelly told the board.
