KING WILLIAM – The CornerStone Community Development Center has been helping families in King William and King Queen for 14 years and this holiday season is no different.
The Center located in Aylett is seeking donations to two events on Saturday, Dec. 21.
For the first, called Santa at Cornerstone, children and families who are already registered for assistance will be able to take photos with Santa Claus. They will also receive a donated wrapped present.
According to Sheila Ishwariah, the center is collecting the wrapped presents. Those interested in donating a gift are asked to bring the present for any age child to the center prior to Dec. 21 and mark the present with the age and gender.
Ishwariah said they also do accept some presents for adults.
Donations are also being accepted for the center’s second event on the Wall of Hats, Gloves, Scarves, and Socks.
The families visiting Santa will be able to choose from the wall each of these items.
“All of these donations go to local families,” Ishwariah said. “We know the families and we know they are truly in need of assistance.
“We try not to give a hand out but give them a helping hand up,” she added. “These families unfortunately have not had the opportunity yet for that hand up.”
Ishwariah said the CornerStone Food Bank continues to see a growing numbers of families and distributed 473 turkeys to families this Thanksgiving. The food bank distributes food every week to about 400 families.
In addition, the CornerStone Health Clinic was visited by hundreds of patients for medical, dental, and vision services in the last quarter.
The center is located on Route 360 in Aylett at 11235 West River Road. Donations can be dropped off during the week. Donors can call to make a drop off appointment if needed by calling 804-769-2996 or emailing email@example.com.
