KING & QUEEN – You are invited to the 19th Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ib Monday, Jan. 20 at noon in King & Queen Central High School auditorium.

The event will celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and voice for justice, equality and freedom for all peoples. Rev. Dr. Reginald F. Davis, Pastor of the historic First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia will deliver the keynote address.

Dr. Davis holds a Master of Divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in New York and a Doctorate in Humanities, with a concentration in African American Studies from Florida State University. He has served as the Dean of Students at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Davis has also served on the faculties of Barry University and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

In 2004 the Journal of Religious Thought accepted publication of his article titled "African American Interpretation of Scripture." He is author of the groundbreaking work, "Frederick Douglas: Precursor of Liberation Theology" (Mercer University Press, 2005). Dr. Davis' writings on Frederick Douglass are contained in an anthology called "Empire and the Christian Tradition: New Readings of Classical Theologians," edited by Kwok Pui-lan, Don H. Compier, and Joerg Rieger (Portress Press, 2007). He is also the author of the much discussed work titled, "The Black Church Relevant or Irrelevant in the 21st Century" (Smyth & Helwys Publishing, Incorporated (February 1, 2013)), and the recently acclaimed "Bible Study for Pastors and Ministers" (Wipf & Stock Pub (February 25, 2011)), Ready-Made Lessons to Transform Members into Disciples and an Audience into an Army. Pastor Davis has been a frequent radio guest in Memphis, Tennessee, and lectures at colleges, universities, and churches across the nation. You will also be blessed by the gifted musical voice of Mrs. Davida McMillian of New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Walkerton, Virginia.

This celebration is King & Queen African American and Research Organization's 19th Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Also, King & Queen County churches sponsor this celebration. The county's public schools and Aylett Country Day School will also participate in the celebration. Refreshments will be served immediately following the program.
