Christmas on the Town comes to West Point Dec. 1

WEST POINT – Christmas is coming to town next week.

The West Point's 2013 Christmas on the Town will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, in downtown West Point. The event, which is sponsored by the West Point/Tri-Rivers Chamber of Commerce, will include holiday festivities for guests for the young and young at heart, including:

Holiday Shopping 
Local merchants will be open at 1:00! Browse Santa’s Blazing Bazaar located at the West Point Firehouse on 7th Street-sponsored by the West Point Volunteer Department Auxiliary. At the Bazaar, you will find bake goods, food and crafts. Be sure to visit “The Gift Box” (located in the Downtown Business Center between 6th & 7th Streets on Main Street) where you’ll find works of art, one-of-a-kind jewelry, handmade gifts, homemade cheese straws, and much more!!! 

Children’s Parade
The children’s parade at 2:00 brings Santa down Main Street with fun floats and music. After the parade, children may visit with Santa at C&F Bank on 8th & Main Street from 2:30-4:00. Photos with Santa will be available. . 

Santa’s Workshop 
Children have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas stories, movies, make crafts and shop at PCDC on 702 Main St. Gift prices start at $.50. The workshop is open from 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. Parents can relax and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, coffee or apple cider while their child shops. The workshop will be open through Friday, December 6th. The event is sponsored by the Parent Child Development Corporation.

Entertainment and West Point Illumination
Pony rides are at the C&F Bank Main Street parking lot from 2:30-4:30. Don’t miss the West Point Elementary “Melody Makers” on the corner of 7th Street at 1:15. Enjoy a carriage ride (weather permitting), beginning at 2:30 at the corner of 6th & Main Streets. Check out Nate Sparks and his band performing Holiday music from 3-5 pm in the Gazebo on 7th St. The Virginia Theatre Machine will present Master Thespian’s: A Christmas Carol. This fun, shortened version of the Christmas classic for all ages will run from 2:30 – 3:00 at the parking lot adjacent to Twice as Nice Thrift Store at 817 Main St. Presented by Arts Alive Inc. and partial funding provided by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be at 5:30 at Beach Park on 1st and Main. We are asking all town residents to turn on their Christmas lights at that time to officially begin the 2013 Holiday Season. Participate in the “Tree of Life” - a chance to honor a special person in your life! “In honor of or in memory of” lights are $5.00 each-contact the Chamber at 843-4620 for more information. 

The OLBS Church Youth Group “Christmas Causes”
Be sure to stop by the Knights of Columbus Hall on 7th Street at 1:00! You’ll find a barbecue meal (tickets can be purchased prior to or at the door), vendors and much more! 

The West Point Ruritans
Check out the Ruritans on 7th & Main Sts. selling Oysters on the Half Shell from 1-3 pm. Drinks will also be available for purchase. 

Spaghetti Dinner
Before going home, stop by the West Point United Methodist Church for a delicious spaghetti dinner from 3-7 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children (under 5 are free). Portion of the proceeds to benefit The Pointer Packs.
