NEW KENT – Two New Kent County residents have been arrested in connection with two separate residential burglaries at the same location.

David Luther Holley, Jr., 41, of New Kent, and Edward Wayne Shumate, Sr., 42, of Quinton, were arrested on Dec. 10 and charged with grand larceny for stealing an A/C unit four days earlier.

A contractor renovating the residence, located in the 8200 block of New Kent Highway, called the New Kent Sheriff's Office on Dec. 6 reporting the theft of an outside A/C unit.

During the investigation, Deputy W. Johnson identified Holley and Shumate and recovered the unit at a local scrap yard.

The same contractor called a day earlier and reported the theft of copper and gas-powered tools from the property.

Johnson identified Holley as the suspect involved and was able to recover the power tools at a local pawnshop.

Holley and Shumate were both arrested on Dec. 10 on warrants and each held at Henrico Jail East on $1,000 bond.

They appeared in New Kent County General District Court on Dec. 11 and the cases were continued until Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m.

According to court documents, Holley is facing two counts of grand larceny, one count of intent to sell stolen property, and selling stolen property. Shumate is being charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of selling stolen property.
