Trial for women charged with shoplifting, drug possession at New Kent Food Lion

NEW KENT – Two Williamsburg women charged with shoplifting and drug possession at the Providence Forge Food Lion will be tried next week.

Courtney Lee Stephenson, 27, and Emily Marie Bowles, 23, will face trial in New Kent Circuit Court on Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.

Stephenson and Bowles are being charged with grand larceny, drug possession, and unauthorized distribution of controlled drug paraphernalia.

According to the New Kent Sheriff's Office, the two women were arrested on Christmas Eve last year after they were "acting suspiciously" inside the Food Lion, located at 9030 Pocahontas Trail.

Police said that Deputy T. Davis's investigation revealed that Stephenson and Bowles were "stealing merchandise from the store and in possession of suspected heroin."

Stephenson and Bowles were transported to Henrico Jail East, where they were served with warrants.
