NEW KENT – New Kent County Public Schools has received over $17,000 for 2013-2014 instructional grants.

On behalf of the New Kent Education Foundation (NKEF), President Christopher Lindsay presented a $17,064.77 check to New Kent Public Schools Monday night. The money will finance 25 of the 38 instructional grant requests, shared among the four schools.

The largest instructional grant will go toward the $5,139 IPad Pilot Program, which will impact the entire school division.

According to Ross Miller, director of Instructional Technology, Testing & Accountability, the grant will pay for nine IPads and accessory pieces, such as cables.

"Teachers will submit ways in which they would use the IPad and a committee will select nine teachers to supply with IPads that year," said Miller in a phone interview Tuesday.

Once the school year ends, staff will once again accept teacher requests for the nine IPads, which will be redistributed.

"We are looking at hopefully expanding that program in the future and providing more IPads," Miller said.
