Fire Marshal determines diesel air compressor cause of RockTenn mill fire

WEST POINT – A diesel air compressor caused the accidental RockTenn paper mill fire in West Point.

At approximately 7:30 this morning, WPFD was alerted for a fire in the boilers at the mill. Walkerton Fire Department and New Kent Fire were also requested.

Units arrived on scene shortly to find a trailer mounted (approximately 15-foot long) diesel-powered air compressor that was fully involved.

Units on scene extinguished the fire within 30 minutes.

The fire was contained to the compressor and no damage was reported to the nearby structure.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental by the King William County Fire Marshal.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.
