Pedestrian struck and killed on Route 60 in New Kent County

NEW KENT – A pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 60 in New Kent County over the weekend.

On Sunday, September 29, around 5:30 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a fatal vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Route 60 westbound, just east of South Garden Road in New Kent County.

According to State Police,

David T. Rackley, 43, of Sandston, was walking in the right travel lane of Route 60 westbound when a 25-year-old Providence Forge man driving a 2005 Ford Mustang struck him.

Rackley died at the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond to determine the cause and manner of death.

The driver of the Mustang, whose identity has not been released, was not injured.

Route 60 westbound was closed for approximately three hours following the investigation.

As of press time, no charges have been filed against the driver.
