Packing a punch at childhood hunger

West Point Cub Scout Pack 340 helps sort and carry food for Pointer Packs.

WEST POINT — Pointer Packs is a non-profit organization striving to eliminate childhood hunger in the West Point community. This program provides backpacks full of food every Friday to children in need ensuring they will receive proper nutrition throughout the weekend. Often many children who receive free breakfast and lunch from the school system do not receive consistent meals over the weekend. Pointer Packs helps fill the gap for those children.

The program began in January of 2013 and provided local children with over 2,600 meals last school year. The organization received overwhelming support from the community enabling this program hit the ground running and have a very successful first year. This year the Pointer Packs program has seen a large increase in demand and currently expects to assist 44 children at West Point Elementary School .
