Oceanography classes visit Reedville Fishermen's Museum
KING WILLIAM – Mrs. McCrosky's Oceanography classes visited the Reedville Fishermen's Museum where they learned about the maritime history of the lower Chesapeake Bay area. Students explored the museum's menhaden boats and learned about the menhaden industry that has existed in Reedville for over a century. Students toured the Elva C, a deck boat, and the Claud W. Somers, a skipjack. Both boats have been fully restored and are on the National Register of Historic Places. Before finding a permanent home at the Reedville Fishermen's Museum, the boats were used in the harvesting of oysters.
