To celebrate the season of giving, Virginia Blood Services is inviting its donors to "triple" the impact of their blood donations now through Dec. 8 by bringing along a non-perishable food item to their community donor centers and mobile blood drives.
During this season of giving and thanks, blood donations are especially needed. To support local patients in need, Virginia Blood Services is asking its donors to also assist Richmond-based FeedMore by donating a food pantry item. As Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader, FeedMore is composed of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia, and the Community Kitchen. Along with transporting the food pantry items, Virginia Blood Services will also donate $1 to FeedMore for each participating donor from Nov. 27-Dec. 8.
While donations of canned items (within expiration dates) are encouraged, FeedMore clients will also benefit from donated items like cooking oil, dried beans, white and brown rice, and laundry detergent. Paper products like paper plates, paper towels, napkins, facial tissue and toilet paper are also in demand.
"Our blood donation sites and local food pantries share the same values by supporting the strength, hope and courage of people in our community," notes Michelle Westbay, Virginia Blood Services marketing & communications director. "In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our goal is to help our partner FeedMore to provide meals to feed the hungry, and support the lives of the people in our community."
