NEW KENT – The New Kent Historical Society (NKHS) has announced its historic photo contest winners.
The winners of the contest, which ran from May to July 31, received cash prizes for their photos.
•1st Prize - Donna Thompson – A picture of Cooks Mill
•2nd Prize - Mary Howell – A picture of the outside of the old Macon House
•3rd Prize - Nancy Phaup - A picture of Calloway's Garage
As great minds think alike, a number of people submitted the same photo, according to the NKHS.
Contest entries included:
—The Pomeroy house
—An old store at the corner of Talleysville Road near the Winery
—An old house near 16601 Cooks Mill Road
—The Macon House
—A dairy barn in Quinton on Route 249
—The home built by the Civilian Conservation Corp near Hopewell Baptist Church
—Corn storehouse on Harrison's Farm
—An old barn on Quaker Road
—A corn storehouse on Old Tavern Farms
—A white house on Route 249 across from Harrison's Field
—An old barn on New Town Road
—Walker's Train Station between Ed Allen's & Rockahock Campground
—The Hunt Club building made with two street cars on Cook's Mill Road
—An old building next to CSX railroad on Courthouse Road in Providence Forge
—The Providence Forge hotel
—An old gas Station on Boulevard Road in Providence Forge
All of the great photos were on display at the NK County Fair in the New Kent Historical Society room.
