NEW KENT – Twenty lucky New Kent Middle School students will get computers, thanks to Bridging Communities.
According to Bridging Communities Director Dr. Steve Trexler, Web and Game Design classes at the Regional Career and Technical Center & STEM Academy, located at 7930 New Chipping Lane in New Kent, will be refurbishing and distributing 20 computers.
"What we do through the STEM Academy is give back to the community," Trexler told the New Kent School Board on Monday. "Our motto is, 'Bridging communities in leadership and in service'."
The computers, which were donated through a state grant, will be given away to New Kent Middle School students.
"These students will be identified and brought over to Bridging Communities on November 23, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. We will have students there to work with [the middle school] students, introducing them to their new computer," Trexler said.
The Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center, which opened in September 2012, is one of 22 Governor's STEM Academies in the state, and the first new technical center in Virginia in 20 years.
