Name: LifeProof Nuud iPad case
What it is: a shockproof, dirtproof, waterproof and snowproof case for iPad 2, 3 and 4. The 0.7-ounce case meets or exceeds the international standard for protection in water as deep as 61/2 feet for an hour. It also meets military shockproof standards for protecting an iPad dropped from 4 feet. But the case's real claim to fame is that it fully protects the iPad while leaving its touch screen nude, so users can fully enjoy their iPads in the case. The transparent back features a coated glass lens over the iPad's rear camera for first-rate images. A protective cover/stand and a headphone adapter come with the case.
The good: This is the ideal case for water babies like me. It has protected my iPad 4 from salt water and pouring rain in maritime Quebec. It withstood splashes from a dolphin in Las Vegas, along with a dip in a pool in St. Lucia while my iPad shot video. After water exposure, I clean the case and screen with soap and tap water, usually leaving the iPad powered on. I love the Nuud's sound enhancer, which allows me to listen to music and video using the iPad's speaker rather than headphones. The shoulder and hand-strap accessory kit ($34.99) makes the case easy to tote without a briefcase.
The bad: I hope the next generation may be submersible as deep as 20 feet so I can take it snorkeling or on shallow scuba dives.
