Two under-construction Orlando theme-park attractions are among the eight "most exciting additions of 2013," according to a post on Frommers.com, a national travel website.
The story, written by Jason Cochran, lists SeaWorld Orlando's Antarctica -- Empire of the Penguin and Universal Studios' Transformers: The Ride -- 3D as intriguing offerings.
Antarctica is lauded for its 250 penguins, trackless navigation system and below-freezing temps. This attraction, the largest expansion in SeaWorld history, opens to the public May 24.
Frommer's notes that Transformers is like a "supersized" Spider-Man, a sister attraction at Islands of Adventure, along with impressive visuals and sound system. But it gives equal time to that boarded-off area around the corner: "But that's nothing compared to the next big area now under construction: Universal won't confirm it, but it's an open secret that Harry Potter is eventually expanding into the area where the Jaws ride once stood."
Transformers, a fraternal twin of attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore, will open in Orlando this summer, Universal says.
The other six exciting coming attractions, according to this list, are the Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad, Calif. ("It's like sleeping in a toy box."); SkyScreamer, a 242-foot swing carousel at Six Flags Over Georgia; the refitted Iron Rattler roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas; the Outlaw Run wood coaster at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo.; additions to Hades, a wood coaster at Mt. Olympus in the Wisconsin Dells; and the GateKeeper coaster at superlative-happy Cedar Point of Sandusky, Ohio. Among its claims: longest track, longest drop and highest inversion.
