Sand sculpture contests: Margaret Thatcher, Dracula, more
The World Championship of Sand Sculpting this month brings 1.2 million pounds of sand transformed into whimsical creations in Atlantic City, N.J. The competition continues through the end of June with sculptures open to the public 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.
Sand sculpture competitions have been going on around the world this spring and summer, some featuring political messages, others focusing on science fiction themes. Here's a sampling of what artists are creating from grains of sand.
