Eye to eye with NYC's Christopher Columbus statue

Columbus Day is coming up Monday, and what better place to spend serious face time with the explorer than in his new living room decorated with rose-colored wallpaper and comfy couches? On the 400th anniversary of his voyage to the New World, Columbus -- well, New York City's 13-foot-tall statue of him -- has been cosseted inside a pre-fab living room that allows visitors to get close to the landmark that sits atop a 75-foot granite column. The room, called "Discovering Columbus," is the creation of Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi and is open to the public for free until Nov. 18.
