Arts Alive scholarship awarded to New Kent High School senior

WEST POINT — The Board of Directors of Arts Alive, Inc. is proud to announce the winner of the C. Herbert Brown, Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship.

This $1,000 scholarship was established in memory of founder, president, and director C. Herbert Brown, Jr., and is designed to help graduating high school seniors from the Arts Alive service areas of the Town of West Point, and the counties of King William, New Kent, and King and Queen who plan to major or minor in the performing arts or music education.

The 2014 scholarship is awarded to Moriah Hancock from New Kent High School. Moriah plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University and major in theatre. Moriah has taken on many leadership roles including Governing Board Secretary, Dance Captain, Director, and Acting Coach. She has also traveled to the U.K. twice as part of New Kent High School's partnership with Astor College of the Arts. Moriah was the recipient of the National Honor Thespian in 2014, and has maintained a GPA of 3.8.

Arts Alive scholarships are funded through designated giving to the scholarship funds.
