West Point Baha'is celebrate the beginning of the Baha'i faith

WEST POINT – There are nine Holy Days on the Baha'i calendar which followers are encouraged to commemorate as special occasions in each Baha'i Community in the world. On May 23, the Declaration of the Bab will be celebrated in West Point at 4:30pm at Gary and Kathy Hogenson's home, 2nd and Lee Street on the Mattaponi River. All are welcome to join the Baha'is for this occasion of prayer, music, and readings on the history of the occasion.

There has been much in the news media lately about sexual assault and domestic violence. According to Emily Steakley, the Sexual Assault Coordinator for Charles City, New Kent, King and Queen, King William counties and the Town of West Point, there is no geographic, economic, or gender determinant for domestic or sexual violence. "Many feel that rural areas are immune from domestic and sexual violence," she explained to the Rotary Club of West Point. "This is not true. The statistics are the same whether city, suburbs, or rural." According to Steakley, one in four females and one in six males will be sexually assaulted before reaching the age of eighteen. One in four females and one in eight males will be the victim of domestic violence.

Boy Scout dinner is the road to adventure
