A lifter of heavy things from a young age, the 76-year-old comedian from Canada has put his entire fitness regimen on hold to lift and twirl a professional dancer on the current season of "Dancing With the Stars." Although Chong didn't have much experience with dance, he had the conditioning from regular exercise that made him capable of tolerating the long hours of preparation it takes to look good beneath the mirror ball. He made it through multiple eliminations, all the way to the semifinals, before having to hang up his dancing shoes after Monday night's performance.

Growing up, Robbie Schaeffer always assumed he would join OPI Products, the nail polish empire his father founded (and which was bought by Coty Inc. in 2010). And so he became a licensed nail technician and opened a salon in Studio City. But then Schaeffer switched gears, literally. A longtime cycling enthusiast, Schaeffer last year opened Pedalers Fork, a bicycle-themed restaurant in Calabasas, which combines some key ingredients of cycling culture: great coffee, healthful comfort food, an impressive selection of beer and wine, and a bicycle repair shop. Schaeffer, 34, regularly leads bike excursions from the restaurant, biking 100 to 200 miles each week.

Bodybuilder-actor Lou Ferrigno has remained true to form. It's been decades since he was a two-time Mr. Universe and starred as an enraged green behemoth in the “Incredible Hulk” TV series and movies, but you wouldn't know it by the 62-year-old's still-spectacular proportions. He'll appear in the latest film in the “Scorpion King” series set for release next year. All the while, he's maintained a personal training business near his home in Santa Monica, raised three kids, ages 24 to 33, with his wife, Carla, become a motivational speaker, and continued his regular workouts at Gold's Gym in Venice. To promote “Hey There Muscles,” a DVD series created with his daughter Shanna (FerrignoFit.com), he's helping lead free hourlong boot-camp-style workouts Saturdays at 9 a.m. at the west end of the Santa Monica Pier through the end of August.

When Frank Shorter won the gold medal in the marathon at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he not only became a household name but also helped create the fitness boom. Pre-Shorter, hardly anyone ran for fitness; post-Shorter, millions did. A Yale grad and trained lawyer who claims to have run 140,000 miles, Shorter's influence grew as he won a silver medal in Montreal in 1976, led the fight to allow runners to turn pro, won a Master's duathlon (bike-run) world championship, became the first head of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and established himself as the running world's elder statesman. Today, at a remarkably fit 66, he jets across the country appearing as a featured speaker at running events and will be seen April 21 as a commentator during the Universal Sports Network's coverage of the 118th Boston Marathon.

Mary Southwick was 34 when she developed pain on the bottom of one foot. After seeing a neurologist who said she had a nerve injury caused by dancing, she developed thrombophlebitis and was admitted to the hospital. An intern underdosed her heparin (blood thinner), and she suffered a large blood clot in a lung. This was soon followed by a heart attack, then respiratory failure, renal failure and shock.

Childhood obesity expert Dr. Joanna Dolgoff says parents of obese children would rather talk to their kids about anything — even sex or drugs — than weight. But ignoring it could set a child up for a lifetime of health problems and emotional heartache, she said. The issue of childhood obesity, and Dolgoff's work, will get a national airing Sunday as the new season of the NBC reality weight-loss show "The Biggest Loser" adds three kids — two 13-year-olds and a 16-year-old — to the cast.

Sara Ivanhoe has always been a bit ahead of her time. The 41-year-old yoga instructor has been practicing yoga since she was in high school. At first, she had no choice: In the small Marin County town of Mill Valley where she grew up, yoga was part of her school's curriculum. Like a typical teenager, she rebelled against most things that were associated with school, but yoga was different. More than 25 years and 4.3 million yoga-videos-sold later, Ivanhoe is still at it. When she isn't teaching at YogaWorks in Santa Monica, she's at Loyola Marymount University, working toward a master's degree in yoga philosophy. Here, Ivanhoe shares some of her yoga wisdom:
