Le quatorze juillet, also known as La Fete Nationale in France and Bastille Day most other places, commemorates the July 14, 1789, storming of the Bastille, a fortress famed for holding political prisoners (though at the time of the storming, it housed only a handful of inmates, apparently of limited political significance).
But it was a pivotal historic event nonetheless, celebrated in Chicago with a Daley Plaza fest (Saturday) and restaurant deals all weekend.
Bistronomic. Three-course Bastille menu available through Sunday; $30, $40 with wine pairing. Dessert choice includes the restaurant's famed Blue, White & Red Baked Alaska. 840 N. Wabash Ave., 312-944-8400.
