7-UP SPOT HIT OF 1990
One of our greatest homemade costumes was ”Spot” for my 2-year-old little girl Brooklynn, in 1990. Brooklynne’s pap-pap works for 7-Up Bottling Co. and she calls 7-Up spot juice. We dedicated the costume to him.

FAMILY TAKES PRIDE IN CREATIVE GET-UPS
Five Talbert children enjoyed handmade costumes through the years made by their mom, Judy.
They included, devil, Raggedy Ann/Andy, witch, Peter Rabbitt, gypsie, Mr. McGregor, Bumble Bee, Tiny Tim, convict, flapper, elephant, M&M;, pumpkin, baton twirler, crayon and Yoda.
Batman was new in 1992 for grandson Jack Evans.

Ever the frugile military wife, attempting to get twice the use out of everything; my son’s first Halloween costume was a red and white cotton flannel clown suit which later became his favorite pajamas. A real facilitator for ”sweet dreams.”

THRIFT STORE TREASURE USED
Stacy was 10 years old the year she decided to make her own costume. A lady’s tan wool dress she found at a thrift shop became her Indian dress when fringe was cut in the bottom. Accessories included an animal skin purse, shell necklace, feather headband and moccasins.

THEY WERE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD
”The Wizard of Oz” was the theme for the four Goodlet children on Halloween 1988. Mom saw the movie on television and sketched costumes as she watched. She sewed costumes from material remnants given to her by her neighbor.

A TASTE OF TROPICS MADE HALLOWEEN
My daughters are older now, but I fondly recall those days of scurrying to the fabric store to purchase scraps of material for an evening of fun.
One particularly warm October, I put together a ”Carmen Miranda” costume. The skirt was simply cut and tied around the waist while the tube top was stiched with elastic. I then filled baskets with artificial fruit, covered it with netting and the costumes were complete!

FARMER IN DELL HIT OF THE PARTY
My daughter’s glasses and long rag-tied braids compliment her farmerette’s attire of hacked off, out-grown jeans, country looking shirt, last summer’s straw hat, rag belt and mom’s scarf as a kerchief.
This last-minute outfit won Danielle, 8, best child’s costume at our neighborhood party.
