Devil’s food doughnuts

You don't have to be Homer Simpson to swoon over a doughnut. But no matter how wonderful they appear, it's hard to find a store-bought doughnut that compares with homemade.

And believe it or not, they're really not hard to make.

Devil's food doughnuts

Total time: About 1 hour
Servings: Makes about 1 1/2 dozen

4 ounces bittersweet chocolate
3 tablespoons butter
3 cups (12.75 ounces) flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup strong coffee, cooled
