–Stellaluna Storytime: Bat World Hampton Roads will present two very informative yet entertaining programs featuring a variety of live bats on Saturday, October 12th, 2013. The program, "Stellaluna Story Time," will be held at 10:30 AM at the library's New Kent location and 12:30 PM at its Charles City location. Come see the storybook character come to life!

–Paws to READ: A chance for your emergent K-5 reader to gain confidence by reading to Glinnie, a trained companion dog. By appointment only. Tuesday, October 1, 6:30. New Kent location.

–Second Tuesday Book discussion group: Tuesday, October 8, 1pm at the New Kent location. Selection for October is The Making of a Country Lawyer: An Autobiography by Gerry Spence. November's selection will be Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Open to all.

–Book Sale - September 30 - October 5: Over 1000 gently used paperback and hardcover books at the New Kent location during regular business hours. Preview sale for Friends Only - 20% discount -- Saturday, September 28, noon - 2 p.m.

–Pre-School Story Time: Mondays at 10:30 in Charles City; Fridays at 10:00 in New Kent.

–Career Assistance: Help with resumes, online job search, and applications is available. Please phone 966.2480 (New Kent) or 652.2450 (Charles City) for an appointment.

–Quilt Raffle: We are grateful to the New Kent Quilters' bee for donating a beautiful lap quilt for this raffle. The quilt is on display in New Kent from September 23 through October 19. Tickets are available for $2 or 3 for $5 in Charles City or New Kent through October 19. A display of handmade quilts will be presented in the New Kent Location October 16-19 during regular business hours. Drawing for the raffled quilt will take place at a reception for Friends' members at 2 pm on Saturday, Oct. 19.
