Friends of Dragon Run

Please join Friends of Dragon Run (FODR) at its first General Meeting of the season on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in the Community Room of the Gloucester County Library, located in the Main Street Shopping Center on Business Rt. 17 (Main Street) at the southern edge of Gloucester Courthouse. The public is invited to this meeting which will begin at 7 PM. Refreshments will be available. Our guest speaker will be Mr. Todd Engelmeyer, a District Biologist for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Engelmeyer will address the issue of invasive plants and animals in the watershed, including what is already here, what might arrive in the near future, and what is being done to meet these challenges. Even though Dragon Run is considered to be "pristine," there are already invasive plants and animals altering the environment in and along the river. Blue catfish and phragmites are already there and it is only a matter of time before other species such as nutria start to alter the landscape of the river. Todd received his Master of Science degree from Christopher Newport University. He has been a wildlife biologist for the past 25 years. His district stretches from the Potomac River in the north to the James River in the south, and it also includes the Eastern Shore.
