Journey Haunted Trails kicks off 10th season with parade, party

The seven winners of the masquerade parade.

NEW KENT – Journey Haunted Trails, New Kent's largest Halloween attraction has kicked off it's 10th season in a big way! On September 28, 2013, they hosted the first ever "Masquerade Parade" around the round-a-bouts on Route 106 in New Kent. Journey Trails is all about celebrating the gifts of art and creativity which is apparent to anyone who dares to enter their haunt! This year, as they celebrate ten years of quality, haunt entertainment in the community, they wanted to showcase the talents and creativity of others through this unusual and interesting "Masquerade Parade."

Even though Journey Trails made up a large part of the parade with their infamous, crowd-pleasing clowns sporting their brand new, hand designed clown car, a 1972 Cadillac Hearse, and a wide array of their current sixty-eight volunteer actors representing each attraction from the haunt, the entire community was invited to participate. Among the other entries were Blue's K-9s of Highland Springs, Amazing Heroes Look-a-like Productions of Newport News, Cornerstone Thrift Store of Providence Forge, and Ennett's Unique Designs of New Kent. Ennet entered two, beautiful, authentic Panamania Folklore Costumes, and a handmade, life-size puppet actually worn by the puppeteer! Angela Ennet, a native from Panama, who now lives in New Kent, decided to enter her family in the parade to proudly showcase their native heritage of Panama. They were a favorite in the Parade and won one of seven masquerade awards.

The awards ceremony took place at the "After Party" for all parade participants held at Journey Trails - 6475 Parrish Rd. in New Kent. With music, inflatable slide and lots of good food, the chili-cook off and award ceremony were the highlights of this event. Everyone had a great time and is looking forward to next year's event where everyone now has a year to create, plan and design THEIR best entry to win one of the coveted Masquerade Parade awards!

Journey Trails is all about increasing the entertainment offerings in the area, and showcasing the incredible artistic gifts that live around us. Visit them at For more information and photos of the parade, "Like" the "Masquerade Parade" page on Facebook.
