Avert your eyes! A gallery of banned and challenged books

This is Banned Books Week, an annual awareness campaign during which librarians and others celebrate free speech by highlighting those books challenged most during the year and citing why. Parents have challenged "Captain Underpants" for encouraging unruly behavior in children, "Harry Potter" has been taken off shelves for dealing in witchcraft, and a school board member called "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger "a filthy, filthy book." This gallery looks at some of the targeted authors and books.
