Just ahead of his planned appearance this weekend on "Saturday Night Live," Miguel on Wednesday released a new remix of his song "How Many Drinks?" featuring Kendrick Lamar.
The two L.A.-based artists broke out in 2012 with two of the year's most critically acclaimed albums: With "Kaleidoscope Dream," which also earned nominations for several Grammy Awards, Miguel offered a sensually futuristic vision of deep-groove R&B, while Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.d city" reimagined West Coast hip-hop for kids who might not have been born when 2Pac's "All Eyez on Me" came out.
In "How Many Drinks?," the duo team up for a lovely (if low-key) meditation on how "life is a bitch, but every dog has his day," as Lamar puts it. The song probably won't flip anyone's wig, though it's vastly more appealing than the chemistry-less duet Miguel performed with Wiz Khalifa on the Grammys in February. (To be clear, Miguel was great there; Khalifa, though, just seemed to have shown up by accident.)
Last week, Lamar announced dates for an upcoming world tour that will bring him to L.A.'s Staples Center on June 29. And both Lamar and Miguel are scheduled to play Jay-Z's Made in America festival (along with Beyoncé, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age and others) on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 in Philadelphia.
