St. Vincent: Annie Clark’s 2011 date in Chicago following the release of her “Strange Mercy” album was marred by some technical issues that muted her world-class guitar playing. Here’s hoping this time her shredding talents come through loud and clear, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield Ave., (sold out); jamusa.com.
Andrew Bird: The more straightforward lyrics on his recent album, “Break It Yourself,” are a welcome step up from the oblique musings of his earlier releases. Bird’s more emotionally transparent songs make a nice match for his quirky melodies, 8 p.m. Saturday at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Parkway, $29.50, $39.50, $49.50; jamusa.com.
