Tinariwen: With their hypnotic rhythms and weaving guitars touching on influences both familiar and exotic, this nomadic band is a hardened road crew -- their first gigs were in the Saharan desert. Tapes of their music circulated throughout Africa before breaking through to Western audiences in recent years. Dancing a must, 9 p.m. Friday at Metro, 3730 N. Clark St., $26 (advance) and $29; etix.com.
Bad Examples: Ralph Covert is best known today as the “Ralph’s World” children’s entertainer, but he was once a mainstay in the city’s power-pop community with the Bad Examples. The quintet, including three original members, released “Smash Record” (Waterdog Music) earlier this year, 9 p.m. Saturday at FitzGerald’s, 6615 Roosevelt Road, Berwyn, Ill., $10 (advance) and $12; www.fitzgeraldsnightclub.com.
