Sure, Lollapalooza is one festival in the Chicago area this weekend. But the crowds. The noise. The teenagers suspiciously unsteady on their feet.
A more easily managed option is The Morton Arboretum's Destination Asia Festival.
Saturday and Sunday, the Lisle tree park will showcase Asian cultures through food, crafts and, yes, music.
The scheduled performers include Friends of Gamelan and Tsukasa Taiko Drummers.
Among many activities, there'll be badminton and cricket on the lawn, henna tattooing, bonsai trees and, covering both ends of a spectrum, yoga and sumo wrestling.
Perhaps best of all, this sampling of the Chicago area's Eastern cultural groups costs nothing beyond regular arboretum admission.
Parking is easier than at Lollapalooza too.
