Katerina’s, the intimate jazz and eclectic supper club at 1920 W. Irving Park Rd., will close at the end of June and will be replaced by a new venue.
Clubowner Katerina Carson, who opened the venue in January of 2000, “is retiring the club,” she says.
“There will be a brand new venue, a brand new owner, and (the space) will continue music and the arts,” she adds. “It will showcase music, but not as extensively as we have, but (music) definitely will be a significant part of the venture.”
Under Carson’s direction, the space has been a significant presenter of Chicago jazz musicians, with artists such as Grazyna Auguscik, Paulinho Garcia, Paul Marinaro and the Fat Babies appearing there often. Past masters, too, such as Jodie Christian and Franz Jackson, found a welcoming home at Katerina’s.
Carson adds in an email that she’s “ready to embrace life’s next adventure. June is our farewell month.”
