Actor James Franco will talk poetry and filmmaking as he headlines a February event in Chicago, the Chicago Humanities Festival announced Wednesday.

On Feb. 19, the Humanities Festival and The Poetry Foundation present “James Franco and Frank Bidart, Off the Shelf,” billed as “an evening of poetry film and discussion.” Franco, who wears many artistic hats, has adapted and directed a film, “Herbert White,” based on the poem of the same title by Bidart, an acclaimed American writer who teaches at Wellesley College and has published numerous poetry collections. Franco’s debut book of poetry, “Directing Herbert White,” will be published in April but available at the event.

Moderated by Poetry Foundation president Robert Polito, the talk is set for 8 p.m. at the Northwestern University School of Law’s Thorne Auditorium (375 E. Chicago Ave.). Tickets range from $10 to $30 (including book) and are available now to CHF members and to the rest of the public at noon on Thursday.
