In the new, Chicago-made reality show “Doomsday Garage,” the apocalypse is assumed. It’s a “build show” that features people getting their ideal vehicles for some sort of coming disaster — flood, fire, banking crisis, etc. — constructed by a father-and-son team from the Pacific Northwest.
Wednesday’s premiere, 8:30 p.m. on CMT, part of the network’s “Bike Week” promotion, features a self-described “prepper” who wants a car that will protect his family during the societal meltdown for which he is preparing. The pretty intimidating result involves a modified GMC Suburban and a machine gun.
The show itself is constructed by executive producer Jason Morgan, a veteran reality TV producer who recently moved back to Naperville and is doing post-production on the series using Chicago facilities and talent.
