The best book covers of the year, selected by designers
The old saying goes that you can't judge a book by its cover, but it's hard to separate the two. A cover that's deeply -- or amusingly, cleverly, outrageously, perfectly -- connected to the text inside is what appeals to me. Designers, however, see things differently: They can look at covers in a state of aesthetic isolation. The Design Observer annually recognizes the 50 best book covers of the year (they also select overall book design), and on Wednesday the magazine announced its 2012 honorees. Here is a selection of what made them swoon.
